Stephen R. Phillips, Ph.D., RPA, is the Research Assistant to the Curator-in-Charge of the Egyptian Section of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Dr. Phillips received his Ph.D. in physical anthropology and archaeology with a focus in Egyptology from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he also earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees. He is listed with the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA).

Dr. Phillips specializes in the analysis of ancient Egyptian and modern human skeletal remains, mummies and mummification techniques, and he served as the Archaeological Site Supervisor and Physical Anthropologist for the ongoing Cairo University-Brown University Expedition in the Great Western Cemetery at Giza.

Dr. Phillips has traveled extensively and participated in a wide range of archaeological excavations over the past two decades, including excavations at Petra, Jordan; near Bordeaux in southwestern France; and, for eight excavation seasons in Egypt - at Giza and Saqqara.

Dr. Phillips, working with his Egyptian colleague, professional guide Ms. Amany Gawdat, is highly experienced guiding tours to Egypt and Jordan, including a two-week tour in March-April, 2011, conducted with complete safety and success just weeks after the Egyptian Revolution.
